SURGEON / INNOVATOR

Nitin Goyal, M.D. is a digital health innovator and Adult Hip & Knee Reconstructive Surgeon

At age 29, Dr. Goyal became the youngest surgeon to join the renowned practice which is the highest volume Adult Reconstruction practice in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. He became the first to win prestigious awards from the Knee Society, the Hip Society, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and one of only a handful of surgeons in the country to have been honored with these awards. Before joining the clinic, Dr. Goyal completed his advanced residency and fellowship training at the prestigious Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, PA, earning the highest honors during his time there.

Dr. Goyal is a preeminent thought leader and educator in the Adult Hip & Knee Reconstruction arena. As an Adult Reconstructive surgeon Dr. Goyal’s specialization in complex revision arthroplasty through the treatment of disorders such as periprosthetic infection has made him a surgeon leader and a principal tertiary referral center for hip and knee revision arthroplasty in the Mid-Atlantic. He combines this clinical acumen with a strong drive towards education with his involvement in the training of the next generation of Adult Reconstructive surgeons through the Anderson Orthopaedic Education Foundation Fellowship program and has consistently been selected as the top educator for his fellowship training endeavors.

Dr. Goyal leads research efforts to maximize patient outcome and satisfaction following joint replacement surgery. He is the editor of two multi-volume reference textbooks on joint replacement, as well as a frequent lecturer on hip and knee arthroplasty topics. Dr. Goyal has over fifty publications and focuses on the production of high-quality scientific research that helps to guide clinical decision making, decrease complications, improve the overall patient outcome, and maximize satisfaction while decreasing the cost of care.

Dr. Goyal was the first surgeon to perform outpatient total hip replacement in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, and has led the charge with outpatient total joint replacement nationally. He was the lead author and study-designer of the first multicenter, prospective, randomized study evaluating Outpatient versus Inpatient Total Hip Replacement, winning the celebrated Otto Au Franc Award, and gaining widespread recognition. This drive to revolutionize the modern joint replacement paradigm has facilitated a national shift towards moving patients from the acute care hospital setting to outpatient ambulatory surgical centers. Dr. Goyal has been at the forefront of this movement because of his passion to consistently re-evaluate commonly held ‘dogma’ so as to continually improve the quality of patient care with fiscal responsibility at each step of the care continuum.

Through this passion for improving patient outcomes and satisfaction while maximizing value and leveraging rapid recovery joint replacement, Dr. Goyal founded Pulse in 2015. He led and continues to be the critical driving force of the development of the product from ideation to the current state. His ability to understand the consumer, both provider and patient, combined with a zeal for breaking down each component to the lowest denominator while understanding the technology development at its finest point has allowed for Pulse to become the best of breed enterprise patient care management platform in rapid fashion. Also, his eye for design, and consumer experience has resulted in Pulse being recognized with multiple design awards, including the Gold in the 2017 Muse Creative Awards, and Silver in the 2017 Davey Awards. Finally, through his national presence and surgeon network Dr. Goyal has been critical in growing the Pulse adoption at a momentous pace.
